So, You’re Here! Now What?

March 16th, 2012

Welcome to the Florida Keys and the islands of Marathon!  Now that you’re here, it is time to give you some adventure options and find what best fits your brand of fun.  Currently, you’re stuck on land.  Let’s figure out how to get you on the water, where the real fun is! Let’s start slow and work our way up the adventure ladder!

Get In Touch With Nature!

The easiest and most friendly to get introduced to our waters is a Red Mangrove Eco Kayak Tour!  It’s as easy as it gets!  We schedule the tours around our peak high tide for any given day.  The areas we visit are tidally sensitive, only allowing access at high tide.  When things go as planned, we ride the incoming ocean tide into the mangrove forest and ride the outgoing time back to the beach.  The tour course is approximately 3.5 miles.  We launch from the end of Sombrero Beach, paddle a mile or so into a dense mangrove canopy.  Enjoy nearly a mile of shady trails and coast back home the way we came in.  This is entry level and I have accommodated ages 3-78, so I’m pretty sure you can do it!  Along the way we teach about the area’s history, local ecology, and have opportunities to see a wade variety of birds, fish, and sometimes dolphins or manatees!

Snorkeling is the best way to see what’s going on underwater.  Rather than share the water with a pile of other people, have your own boat and go where the crowds are NOT!  You didn’t come here to see an old dude in his speedo swimming in front of you!  Have the flexibility to make your own choices throughout your trip to get exactly what you want.

Fishing in Marathon is first rate.  Here they should just call it catching!  Let’s go out and bend a rod!  All the tackle, licenses and such is provided for you.  Catch some dinner, catch the fish of a lifetime and get an education on how it all works and you’ll be a pro next time you’re down to visit!

Spearfishing is the top of the adventure list!  Who else can go out and spear a fish on a single breath of air?!  If it were easy, watching people eat tree bark on Survivor wouldn’t be so fun!  You will be provided with professional instruction and guidance and given the best opportunity to spear your first fish here in the keys.  This is not for everybody, but nearly anybody within reasonable physical health can participate.  If you like a challenge, here it is folks!

Finally, not all of those mentioned activities are for everybody.  Spend some time on the water your way!  I also offer sandbar parties, sunset cruises, inland island tours and pretty much anything else you can think of.  If there is a way to do it, I’ll make it happen.  If I cannot provide the activity you desire, I will find the most appropriate outfitter to make your vacation the best!

You’re here!  Don’t miss out on the best part of the Keys!  Time to get out on the water and have a reel adventure!  If you have any questions, please fill out my “contact”  form in detail or call me at (305) 481-0589.    Booking is easy!! Please leave a message, I do not answer my phone on the water.  Too busy having fun!!
