Archived December update. Conditions, availability, and business details refer to the original publication period.

December is here, and our quiet off-season is about to give way to the Christmas crowd. If a day on the water is part of your holiday plans, spend a little time exploring the trip options and preparation information on my website.

I do not answer calls while running a charter. My attention is on the guests aboard, so the website is a useful starting point while I am out. Leave a message if you need help, and I will get back to you when I can.

Wind Has Limited the Recent Fishing Reports

I will keep this update fairly short. Persistent wind and a quiet stretch between Thanksgiving and Christmas have meant fewer boats fishing and less fresh information to pass along.

December can be a very good fishing month, but the weather has a say in how we approach it. A longer offshore plan needs different conditions from a shorter outing close to shore.

A Four-Hour Reef Trip Gives Us Flexibility

For many groups, a four-hour reef trip is a good starting point. We do not have to commit to a long run, and there are several ways to put the day together.

If the deeper reef is unsuitable, nearshore reefs, bayside areas, or the bridges may give us alternatives. The right choice depends on wind direction, water conditions, and the people aboard.

Please fill out the notes section of your reservation. Tell me about everyone’s experience, comfort on a boat, and what you would enjoy doing. That information helps me prepare and make useful adjustments before we meet at the dock.

A half-day morning reef trip.

Winter Snorkeling Needs an Alternative Plan

In-water activities become less predictable as winter weather settles in. Water temperatures have been unusually warm for this report period, but I expect them to fall as the month progresses.

Wind and waves can reduce reef visibility, and the water may need time to clear afterward. A calm morning does not always mean the effects of the previous windy days have disappeared.

If you reserve with snorkeling in mind, we need to discuss an alternative beforehand. When visibility rules it out, a shorter fishing outing or another suitable custom activity may give your group a better experience.

We will talk through those possibilities rather than assume the original plan will work regardless of conditions. There are several ways to enjoy the water when we choose appropriately.

An excellent November snorkeling trip.

Keeping the Boat Ready and Trips Good Value

The boat has received new cushions and a clear enclosure to improve comfort. Getting marine work completed locally can take time, so organizing maintenance and upgrades is a continuing part of the business.

Rising operating costs have also been a challenge. I am working to keep trips good value while maintaining the boat and equipment properly.

You can help care for that equipment by following the handling instructions and asking when you are unsure. I would much rather demonstrate something again than have you wrestle with unfamiliar tackle.

If you enjoy your trip, an honest Google or TripAdvisor review is appreciated. Your experience helps future guests understand what I offer and supports an independent business. Thank you for taking the time.

Working a charter into your holiday schedule? Tell me your dates and what your group would most enjoy. We can discuss a practical fishing plan, any snorkeling possibilities, and the alternatives worth keeping in mind for your visit.
