Florida Keys Snapper

When I think of December many thoughts come to mind.  So many things are happening and in the works all culminating with a busy holiday week to finish the month and year.  Thankfully, the weather has been warm here and many opportunities wait for you to take advantage of the gifts our local resources provide guides like me to introduce you to.  From fishing to snorkeling to nearly anything you can think of, it is a great time of the year to give yourself a day to play on the water,

As the water cools, fishing becomes the star of December.  No different than you coming to seek refuge in our warmer climate, so does a large migration of fish.    Not only do they migrate down the East coast to winter here, the fish also come shallower to feed on an abundance of bait.  This makes fishing even on the windy days possible and often very productive.  There is more to consider with the possibility of rapid changes in our weather to set up and plan for your trip.  Don’t be afraid to give me a call or leave specific details on the contact form to help me plan a trip that gives you the best chance to have the day you desire.

Snorkeling is another great option for December.  It’s hard to say what normal is for weather anymore, but we seem to be continuing on a warm trend.  Water temperatures have been hovering in the high 70’s lately and there has been some great visibility when we are not in the wind/rain events we often see this time of year.  The moon jellyfish have slacked off tremendously and the amount of incidental stings has just about disappeared.  A wet suit is a great way to ensure your day in the water is comfortable, so don’t forget to ask.  They are available for rental at the dock for an additional $10 per person.  I can provide all and any rental equipment for your outing, but you are welcome to bring your own too.

Spearfishing, sandbar trips and sunset cruises are still great options too.  About the only activity that radically trends down now is lobstering.    I can operate these trips at your request, but most of the lobster have moved out of the area and conditions make the activity more challenging.

I want to thanks all of my new and returning customers for another great year of adventures!  I am so blessed to be a guide in the Florida Keys.  It is a tremendous compliment to have you spend a day or two of your vacation on the water with me.  I look forward to the next chance to have a reel adventure!
